Web is not all about saving money

In the past couple of years my wife and I have been slowly greening our lives.  We traded in one of our cars and bought a scooter for my daily commute.   We also joined a CSA and frequent the nearby farmers’ market to try and keep our food local.  One of these decisions saves us money, the other doesn’t.  We like knowing where our food comes from and supporting local farmers, but it’s not cheaper than the alternative.  Does that mean it’s not worthwhile?
Often with the green movement, a lot of emphasis is put on reducing costs.   Switch to LEDs and you will save money of your yearly electric bill!  Gas guzzlers cost more!  But if that’s your only motivation you’re not really doing it for your convictions.  Don’t get me wrong, I love when doing the right thing is also the cheaper thing but it’s just not always going to be the case.
The same thing goes for the web.  Occasionally you might need to spend as much, or more, to make the web part work.   You just have to be honest with yourself, are you using the web to save a buck or to create something special?
