Like every other data analyst in the world, I have done my fair share of charting in Microsoft Excel. And also like every other data analyst, I got tired of trying to bend Excel to my will.
Basic bar charts, line charts, and scatter plots are easy designs for a spreadsheet tool, but sometimes they just don’t do the trick.
As I started to delve into graphic design over the last few years I discovered the power of using vector graphic tools for visualization. Subsequently, my favorite charting tool these days is one without any native chart specific features. It’s a Mac exclusive software package called Sketch.
With Sketch, as long as you understand the math behind charting you can create anything. Which leaves the door wide open for all sorts of interesting charts.
